Skills For Independence – 24 to 27 November 2022

We are pleased to be hosting AQA as they run their Skills for Independence course here at Sargood!

AQA’s tailor-made three day course is developed to equip people with spinal cord injuries (SCI) with the skills, knowledge and confidence to further their independence and wellbeing.

Developed and led by people with lived experience, this course will provide you with opportunities to connect with others to problem solve, share life experiences, acquire new skills and engage in adaptive outdoor recreational activities. This course is designed to actively involve your family members (including children) or companions who have been a key support during your life.

When: 24 – 27 November


Cost

3 Days / 3 Nights: $1300 per room per night (Sleeps 4) “Wellness & High Support package” or $1660 per night “Wellness & Very High Support package”.

Catering cost for accompanying family member or companion: $175/person

Important Notes

Suitable for all levels.

As this course requires extra assistance for negotiated activities, we require all participants to stay on the Wellness & High Support Package ($1300/night) as a minimum package.

Course Inclusions

  • Wheelchair skills
  • Transfers
  • Planning holidays or staying away from home
  • Promoting independence
  • Assistive technology
  • Kayaking
  • (Hand) Cycling/scooting (for the kids)

Family members/significant others who have been a key support during the adjustment to living with SCI are also invited. On the final day, they will be involved with exploring and identifying the valued resources and supports that make the difference to their wellbeing, understanding and adjustment.

You must be living in the community to apply to attend any of the courses run at Sargood on Collaroy. If you are currently an inpatient at a health facility then unfortunately you are not eligible to apply.
