It has been so cool getting into places that I never thought I would get to again, that’s the one thing I love most about it.
It was great being able to participate in Sargood’s first mountain biking camp. Mountain biking has been part of the weekly activities program for while, but this has been the first time a 3 day course was offered.
We had the opportunity to bike across some of Greater Sydney’s top MTB trails, including Manly Dam, Awaba MTB Park and Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park. The camp is a great opportunity for people with similar injuries to enjoy each other’s company and get out on the trails and enjoy a little bit of something they may have done before hand. I used to do a lot of mountain biking before I hurt myself.
We were given the option of bringing our own bike, or having one supplied by the awesome crew at Adaptive Concepts Australia, who joined us for the course with a range of cycles including a quad adapted Jeetrike and an Explorer. Being given the opportunity to use the great new tech that’s out there was amazing! There have been such great improvements to how a lot of the equipment used to be.
The technology is truly awesome and the freedom that it gives you is unbelievable. It has been so cool getting into places that you never thought you’d get to again. That’s the one thing I love most about it. Getting onto these tracks that I wouldn’t have been able to get to in my wheelchair, that’s for sure!
I also love that it’s developing a community of like-minded people that enjoy being outdoors and pushing the limits of what their ability can do. I’d definitely come back when Sargood runs this course again!
