The innovative architectural design of Sargood on Collaroy picked up a Best in Class award at the 2017 Australian Good Design Awards.
As the highest design honour in the country, the Awards showcase the best of design, innovation and creativity in Australia. Designed by WMK Architecture, Sargood on Collaroy took out the award for commercial and residential architecture.
Sargood is a world-first health and wellness retreat offering resort-style accommodation for people with spinal cord injury. The architectural features at Sargood include residential pavilions which are defined by a series of folded linear roofs that capture the sun and mimic the waves of nearby Collaroy beach. In terms of sustainability, the design project incorporates features including passive solar design, performance glass, extensive insulation, operable windows for cross-ventilation, and large overhangs to protect from the summer sun.
“Sargood On Collaroy shows how innovative design can make a real difference to peoples’ lives,” said WMK Managing Director, Greg Barnett.
