Other Sports

Try your hand at some of our many sporting activities.

We provide a free shuttle bus for guests for any activities that do not take place at Sargood on Collaroy. If space allows, family members may be able to come along on our shuttle bus, however, guests with a SCI will be given priority.

WEEKLY ACTIVITIES

Golf

We arrange weekly golf clinics by a PGA Pro at Long Reef golf course, one of the most picturesque and accessible golf courses in Sydney. Long Reef golf course also houses the Paragolfer, a revolutionary all-terrain mobility device which allows individuals with spinal cord injuries to manoeuvre into the standing position to replicate a full golfing experience.

Long Reef golf course is only the second 100 per cent disabled-friendly golf course in Australia, so we are very lucky to have this resource so close by.

Gym Classes

Enjoy a variety of gym classes specifically designed and run by our exercise physiologists. Our exercise physiologists deliver and evaluate safe and effective exercise interventions for all levels of abilities.

Our classes include circuit training, strength and conditioning, HIIT, boxing and more. Our therapists will focus on building strength, range of motion and cardiovascular fitness.

Yoga

Wind down and relax with a 60 minute adaptive yoga class in our therapy room, featuring a mix of poses, breath work and meditation tailored to your needs and abilities.

Rock Climbing

Rock climbing is said to boost muscle, endurance and even brain function, as you use your problem solving skills to find the best route. It is even known to reduce stress. Join us as we head to one of our nearby indoor climbing centres for an epic challenge.

You will learn about safety and using climbing equipment, climbing technique, hand holds, the various adaptive techniques available and belay technique. This is open to guests with paraplegia. Quadriplegics with strong hand function may also be able to participate and we are happy to assist anyone who would like to give it a go. All equipment provided, however, you must bring enclosed shoes.

Cycling

We have beginner and advanced cycling classes. Both our classes require some bicep function as we use hand cycles and recumbent cycles.

Beginner class
If you have never been cycling with your level of injury before, start with our beginner’s class. You will find out the most suitable cycle for your abilities and learn the basics of riding. Once you have completed this course, you may join our advanced cycling tour.

Advanced cycling tour
Venture out to Narrabeen Lake, which is surrounded by an 8km accessible track. Or you may prefer to test yourself on the climb up to Long Reef Point Lookout and be rewarded with stunning 360-degree views and whale spotting.

Lawn Bowls

Join us for an afternoon of lawn bowls from the accessible North Manly Bowling Club. Learn the sport for the first time, touch up on some of your skills or get your competition on. We use adaptive equipment including the x8 power chair, walking sticks and a bionic bowler arm. You may like to enjoy a relaxing drink or lunch at the club between games.

Bush Push

Sargood on Collaroy is surrounded by some of Sydney’s most beautiful accessible nature reserves and National Parks. Join us on a guided tour through one of the many trails nearby including Narrabeen Lakes, West Head Lookout, Warriewood Wetlands, Deep Creek Reserve and Middle Head Army Barracks. We will take our Batecs, X8 Wheelchairs and Freewheels for you to use on your tour.
