Program Options

Making Strides 2 week course at Sargood On Collaroy

Activity Based Therapy

ABT sessions are physically intense one-on-one sessions with our specialist trainers. They are a combination of some or all of our modalities depending on the joint clinical and functional goals set between our client and trainers during the initial evaluation.

Gait Training

Gait training sessions use a body weight supported harness system above a treadmill, our specialist trainers manually assist a person to simulate the natural human gait pattern. The load bearing, repetitive movement and specific sensory feedback provided by the trainer is aimed at stimulating reorganisation of the nervous system and facilitating functional recovery.

For some clients, training can be progressed to full weight bearing using a forearm support walker. For fully ambulating clients a more conventional gait analysis and re-training will be completed focusing on return to a natural and efficient gait.

FES Therapy

FES cycling sessions combine electrical stimulation on specific muscles in the lower or upper body to initiate or strengthen the cycling pattern of the arms or legs. Using the Motomed Viva2, the resistance is progressively increased as the client becomes stronger and increases their exercise capacity of the muscle groups used.

Data can be analysed in graphs to show historical changes in exercise performance. Session duration is between 30 and 60 minutes and can be completed either as a stand alone or before/after an activity based therapy session. Current research suggests the optimal dose response is achieved completing  FES cycling three times weekly.

Rewalk

The ReWalk offers clients a form of passive gait training in a wearable exoskeleton. Each step is initiated by a change in the user’s upper body position and powered by motors in the hip and knee joints, this means voluntary lower limb movement is not required.

ReWalk sessions are a great opportunity to get upright and walk around while achieving a number of great health benefits. Some of which include:

  • Improved bladder and bowel function
  • Decreased body fat
  • Decreased pain
  • Improved mental health

Making Strides offer all of the above services which are tailored to the client pending their evaluation. All sessions run for approx. 2 hours and may focus on one or many of the above options depending on client needs.

All guests will be required to return a signed medical clearance form from their treating physician prior to participating in the course. If it is deemed by your physician that you would be medically at risk by participating in the course Sargood on Collaroy reserve the right to refuse admission.
